HoFH Across the Lifespan: Understanding the Disease at Different Stages of Life

Host: International Atherosclerosis Society, Gulf Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Middle East & North Africa Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Society, Saudi Heart Association Atherosclerosis Working Group

IAS Collaboration

Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is a rare, severe genetic disorder that causes extremely high LDL cholesterol. It leads to premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, even death, sometimes as early as childhood. Annually, the global ASCVD and rare disease communities unite on HoFH Awareness Day to raise awareness, share educational initiatives, and advocate for earlier diagnosis and better treatment of HoFH.

There remains a tremendous need globally and across the Gulf countries specifically for HoFH education of health care providers who work in cardiology, endocrinology, family and internal medicine, and pediatrics. To help address this need, the International Atherosclerosis Society is pleased to have coordinated with three other medical societies – the Gulf Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes, the Middle East & North Africa Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Society, and the Saudi Heart Association Atherosclerosis Working Group – to offer a free 90-minute, non-CME webinar for health care professionals on May 4, 2026 from 7-8:30pm GST.
