Endowed Awards

The 5th Antonio M. Gotto, Jr. Prize in Atherosclerosis Research will be awarded at the 20th International Symposium on Atherosclerosis (ISA2024) held in Muscat, Oman. The triennial prize, endowed by Weill Cornell Medicine and the International Atherosclerosis Society in honor of Dr. Gotto, Dean Emeritus of Weill Cornell Medicine and founding President of IAS, recognizes outstanding scientific, medical or organizational advancement in the ability to understand the causes and the development of atherosclerosis. IAS will accept nominations until May 30, 2024.

The second Jean-Charles Fruchart Prize in Nuclear Receptors and Atherosclerosis Research will be awarded at the 20th International Symposium on Atherosclerosis (ISA2024) in Muscat, Oman. The prize is sponsored by the R3i Foundation and the International Atherosclerosis Society and recognizes outstanding scientific, medical or organizational advancement in the ability to understand the functional involvement of nuclear receptors in atherosclerotic vascular disease and their athero-protective role to reduce the development of atherosclerosis. IAS will accept nominations until May 30, 2024.

The 4th Antonio M. Gotto, Jr. Prize in Atherosclerosis Research was awarded to Paul M. Ridker, MD, MPH, during the 19th International Symposium on Atherosclerosis (ISA2021) held in Kyoto, Japan. Dr. Ridker is the director of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, a translational research unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.

The triennial prize, endowed by Weill Cornell Medicine and the International Atherosclerosis Society in honor of Dr. Gotto, Dean Emeritus of Weill Cornell Medicine and founding President of IAS, recognizes outstanding scientific, medical or organizational advancement in the ability to understand the causes and the development of atherosclerosis.

The first Jean-Charles Fruchart Prize in Nuclear Receptors and Atherosclerosis Research was awarded to Hitoshi Shimano, MD, PhD at the 19th International Symposium on Atherosclerosis (ISA2021) in Kyoto, Japan. The prize is sponsored by the R3i Foundation and the International Atherosclerosis Society. Dr. Shimano is a clinical professor of the Department of Internal Medicine, Metabolism and Endocrinology at the University of Tsukuba, Japan.

The third Antonio M. Gotto, Jr. Prize in Atherosclerosis Research was awarded to Daniel J. Rader, MD, an investigator from the Perelman School of Medicine, during the XVIII International Symposium on Atherosclerosis held June 9-12 in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Rader is the chair of the Department of Genetics and chief of the Division of Translational Medicine and Human Genetics at University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

The second Antonio M. Gotto, Jr. Prize in Atherosclerosis Research was awarded to John Chapman, BSc, PhD, DSc, EFESC, during the XVII International Symposium on Atherosclerosis held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Dr. Chapman is a research professor at Sorbonne University’s Faculty of Medicine Pitié-Salpetriere and director emeritus at INSERM, Paris, France.

The triennial prize, endowed by Weill Cornell Medicine and the International Atherosclerosis Society in honor of Dr. Gotto, Dean Emeritus of Weill Cornell Medicine and founding President of IAS, recognizes outstanding scientific, medical or organizational advancement in the ability to understand the causes and the development of atherosclerosis.

The first Antonio M. Gotto, Jr. Prize in Atherosclerosis Research was awarded to Helen Hobbs, MD, during the XVI International Symposium on Atherosclerosis held in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Hobbs is an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and professor of internal medicine and molecular genetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Houston, Texas, United States.

The triennial prize, endowed by Weill Cornell Medicine and the International Atherosclerosis Society in honor of Dr. Gotto, Dean Emeritus of Weill Cornell Medicine and founding President of IAS, recognizes outstanding scientific, medical or organizational advancement in the ability to understand the causes and the development of atherosclerosis.
